I am always fascinated to see images from the island my mother grew up on. She has shared some fascinating stories about her childhood as the daughter of a fisherman on the island of St. Helena. I have never actually visited and only recently have I looked to the internet to get more information. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us! A first generation American. He had no blood relatives other than his two children in the U.S. that I know of. Unfortunately, he died when my father was 4 years-old and I have very little information about the Nystrom family in Finland. Actually, I should say none. I would not doubt that there are relations in Sweden also. I have done a little research on the Nystrom name and I'm under the impression it originated in Sweden. My Great Grandfather, Grandfather, father and brother all carry the same name - Johannes William Nystrom. --- john.ekwall@mailbox.swipnet.se wrote: > I am glad you liked the images. This is for those of you that are interested but haven't followed up yet. The Festival is now definitely scheduled for August ... the RMS leaves Cape Town on 10th August and returns back on 31st August. The Festival includes the notorious marathon (it is not only the most remote and most exclusive but probably also the smallest marathon in the world - and one of the toughest road marathons too!) as well as a half marathon, 10 & 3 km and of course Jacob's Ladder Challenge. Events are spaced out over the week with plenty of time for other activities and walkers are welcome of course. All the necessary information is on the website www.festivalofrunning.com. St Helena Lines has given us a special fare (I can email you details). I have also compiled a CD with a few hundred photographs of the previous festival, including pics on-board the RMS and some of the hikes and outings we did on the island. I can send the disk to anyone who's interested. If your address is outside South Africa, please send me a small banknote to cover the expense of the airmailing (i.e. 5 Euro, US$ or Pounds). Ok, the main reason of sending this message is to announce that cheap berths are running out on this voyage - we have already about 30 people booked for the Festival, so if you're interested you will have to move your butt ;-) Warmest regards from Cape Town - Jean-Paul Van Belle From david at thetompsetts.freeserve.co.uk Sat Oct 16 16:32:12 2004 From: david at thetompsetts.freeserve.co.uk (David & Ruth Tompsett) Date: Sat Oct 16 16:26:05 2004 Subject: [STHELENA] New TdC- images uploaded References: <1097021300.4293.205850026@webmail.messagingengine.com> <000d01c4aef7$f1df12a0$b32b65d5@HemPC> Message-ID: <004a01c4b38c$ee2aeb40$8f9d193e@hppav> PLease delete us from any mailing lists you may have ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Ekwall" To: ; "Saint Helena" Cc: Sent: Sunday, October 10, 2004 7:35 PM Subject: [STHELENA] New TdC- images uploaded > Hi there, > > It has been some quite weeks since my last posting but now there will be > more images to watch. Of equal interest to me are any family members I may have on the island of St. Helena. My mother left the island at the age of 18. She is now 54. She was the youngest of 11 children until her father remarried and had one more son. I believe his name is Mark? My grandfather's name was William Percivel Caswell and my grandmother's name was Violet Elizabeth (Fuller) Caswell. Both are deceased and buried on the island. I am under the impression I have about 3 uncles still living on the island including my mother's half brother. My mother Anita Martha (Caswell) Nystrom has not been in touch with anyone on the island since her father died in the late 80's. She would be ecstatic to hear from any other family members still living there. She intends to visit the island within the next few years if possible. She will be going to England to visit some of her siblings next Summer. Other family names that may be useful are Hearnes and Fagan. If anyone has any information or recognizes the names I have mentioned please contact me through this web address! Thank you! Nissa Nystrom _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I've had the cheek to copy it to yours as your website is the best place to ask the question. I have told Alfred I have done this. Vince Thompson I am a 55 year old Scandinave. I have had good jobs an sold my company, so I have got the possibility to be retired early with a good pension. My vife died a few years ago and my children have all got a good university education. So i am considering to move to warmer climate and the St Helena climate seems quit pleasant. I have a few question is it possible to move to ST.Helena,. How will my pension from Scandianvian pensionsfund be taxated in ST Helena if I moved down there for period og 2 to 5 years. Is it easy to be accepted as foreigner on ST Helena and be engaged in the local community. I am still very active.
